Blind has fallen out of favour under this term, and has lost his left-back slot Luke Shaw, who has seen a return to form.
Jose Mourinho has already brought in Alexis Sanchez this month, however it seems there could be more outgoings.
Mata signed a new contract on Tuesday night to block any chance of him leaving.
The Dutchman is out of contract at the end of the season, but there has been no indication of him being offered a new deal.

Ginaluca Di Marzio reports Blind has made it clear to Roma he would be keen to join them this month.
It is suggested a fee has to be agreed, although it remains to be seen if he does leave, how much United will recoup for him.
Blind’s versatility would no doubt make him an attractive proposition for Roma, as he can play either on the left side of defence or midfield.

Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Steve Nicol admitted earlier this month he would like to see Blind leave.
He said: “If you’re fighting on all the fronts that United are, you have to be able to make some changes.
“(Blind) has to go, yes, definitely. I’ve not been a fan of Daley Blind since he went to Manchester United and he’s done nothing at United to make me change my mind.”
