Mascherano Fears “Tough, Disorganised” Super Eagles Can Cause Argentina Problems

Former Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has stated that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are capable of destabilizing Argentina at this summer’s World Cup.
Mascherano made this known in an interview with English publication, The Guardian, while assessing Argentina’s Group D opponents. Apart from Nigeria and Argentina, the group also has Iceland and Croatia.
This will be the third time Mascherano will be facing the Super Eagles at the World Cup when both teams clash in Group D at this year’s tournament in Russia.
The defender-cum-midfielder was in the Argentina squad that beat the Super Eagles at the South Africa 2010 (1-0) and Brazil 2014 (3-2) World Cups.
He was in the Argentine team that surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 to the Super Eagles in a friendly game in Russia in 2017.
“Iceland are a new team in the sense that they maybe don’t have a long football tradition but they’re a generation of players that have made history recently, with spectacular success at Euro 16, and qualifying ahead of Croatia,” former Barcelona star Mascherano told The Guardian.
