Erik ten Hag insists that Cristiano Ronaldo could stay at Man Utd beyond the end of next season as he plans for life with the Portugal international.

Ronaldo has reportedly asked to leave the Red Devils this summer if a ‘satisfactory offer’ is made for his services with the 37-year-old wanting to play Champions League football.

However, there seems to be a lack of clubs seriously interested in his services with an unnamed Saudi Arabian club the only side to make an offer.

Atletico Madrid have apparently entered the frame in recent days but the financial aspect of a deal already seems a bit tricky.

And it currently seems likely that the Portuguese striker – who is absent from the club’s pre-season tour for ‘family reasons’  – will remain at Man Utd for at least one more season.

When asked how hard it is to accommodate Ronaldo in his team if he’s only staying for one more year, Ten Hag replied: “I am well informed, he also has also an option, eh?”

Asked whether Ronaldo could stay at Man Utd beyond next season, Ten Hag added: “Yes, but to be honest, of course I have signed here for three years, but in football it’s short-term as well. We have to win from the start. So I don’t look that far ahead. I have a strategy, it’s a process, it takes time, but in the end we have to make sure from the outset there is a winning team.”
