Hakimi: I Hope To Win African Footballer Of The Year Award Ahead Of Lookman
Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi has disclosed that he’s hoping to win the prestigious 2024 African Footballer of the Year award ahead of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman.
Recall that the Nigerian international is being regarded as the favourite to succeed his compatriot, Osimhen, as the next continental soccer king for his superlative performances in the period under review.
Last month, the 27-year-old Atalanta forward was voted the 14th best player in the 2024 Ballon d’Or in Paris, and just last week, he was also listed in a short list of 30 for the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards men’s best player prize to be held in Dubai on December 29.
However, in a chat with Brut via maliactu.net, the Moroccan international stated that he hopes to be rewarded for his efforts.
“It’s a source of pride and satisfaction, especially knowing that the work I’ve been doing for a long time will be rewarded with this nomination,” he told Brut via maliactu.net.
“It’s true that it’s an important trophy on an individual level, but I’m happy to be here,
“I hope I can win it, but if not, I’m happy to be here, and it makes me want to keep working”
A ceremony where awards in various categories will be given to the men’s and women’s stars of Africa will be held in Moroccan city Marrakesh on December 16.
