FAKE NEWS - NFF debunks Victor Osimhen Super Eagles ban after Finidi George tirade

Reports suggesting Victor Osimhen has been banned from the Nigeria national team the Super Eagles following his social media rant have been dismissed as outright falsehoods by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The in-form Napoli striker had been linked with an exclusion from the Super Eagles setup after publicly criticising former head coach Finidi George's management earlier this year.

NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi has moved to quash these rumours, expressing amazement at the false claims circulating online.

"The NFF has neither instructed a process nor has a process been concluded to ban the player from the National Team," he said in a statement.

Sanusi went on to implore the media to focus on positive resolutions rather than needlessly escalating matters, as Nigeria look to put the Finidi George saga behind them and turn their attention to upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

"Our focus presently is to resolve all matters around the Super Eagles and be able to look ahead with confidence to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining six matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series," he added.

Osimhen enjoyed a season of mix-fortune in the Serie A following a poor title defence for Napoli this season after firing them to the title under new manager Luciano Spalletti.

The 25-year-old's return to the Super Eagles setup will be a major boost for the Nigerian side as they look to mount a serious challenge for a place at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

With Finidi gone and a foreign technical adviser expected to be appointed, NFF chiefs will be hoping the Osimhen situation can be resolved positively in time for the upcoming qualifying matches.

Pulse Sports understands that while their relationship may have been strained, the door remains open for the in-form frontman to link up with the national team once again as they look to move on from the brief Finidi era.
